Domain Management Options

When setting up your nonprofit’s website with NonprofitPress, you have several options for managing your domain. Here’s a breakdown to help you choose the best setup for your needs:

Register Domains With or Transfer to NonprofitPress (MWP Cloud)

Benefits:

Requirements:

  • A site hosted by NonprofitPress (MWP Cloud)

How to Set Up:

  1. Log into the control panel (MWP Cloud) and go to Domains
  2. Register a new domain or transfer and extend an existing registration
  3. Manage your domain settings directly from the hosting control panel.

Register a Domain Elsewhere but Use NonprofitPress (MWP Cloud) DNS

Benefits:

  • Custom Control - Keep your domain with a registrar you prefer but take advantage of NonprofitPress’s powerful DNS management.
  • Flexible Integration - Easily integrate your existing domain with NonprofitPress hosting.

Requirements:
  • A site hosted by NonprofitPress (MWP Cloud or Digital Ocean)
  • A domain registered at a third-party with ability to change nameservers

How to Set Up:

  1. Register your domain with a third-party registrar.
  2. In your hosting control panel (MWP Cloud), go to the Domains > Connected Domains and click the button to Add/Connect a Domain
  3. Enter your domain and complete the wizard to import any existing DNS records from your registrar.
  4. Back at your registrar, update your domain’s DNS settings to point to the nameservers provided in the previous step


Register a Domain and Manage DNS Elsewhere, Point to NonprofitPress (MWP Cloud)

If you plan to use Cloudflare Free or (especially) Paid plans, we strongly recommend Cloudflare Registrar.

  • Seamless Hosting - Benefit from NonprofitPress’s optimized hosting services without changing your domain management setup.

Requirements:

  • A site hosted by NonprofitPress (MWP Cloud or Digital Ocean)
  • A domain registered at a third-party with ability to modify DNS records:
    • CNAME records, flattening for root
    • (or) Both A and AAAA records

How to Set Up:
  1. Register your domain with a third-party registrar.
  2. In your hosting control panel (MWP Cloud), go to Sites and select your NonprofitPress website to open its settings
  3. In the site settings, go to Hosting > Domains and click the button to Add Domain
  4. Enter your domain and complete the wizard to get your new records
  5. Back at your registrar, add or update the DNS records


Note: Depending on your registrar, the propagation of your new or updated records can take up to 48 hours. Do not change your primary domain until valid DNS is detected and an SSL certificate is generated by NonprofitPress.
